What is Snocator?
Snocator is the ultimate ski and snowboard guide for the iPhone, built for snow sports addicts, by snow sports addicts.
It's the only iPhone app which uses location-enabled interactive trail maps to show you where you are on the mountain, with all the nearby lifts, runs, lodges, terrain parks, and more.
Snocator also gets you the latest snow reports, surface and weather conditions, mountain cams, and up-to-the minute forecasts.
Snocator is everything a skier needs in one place, and priced cheaper than a hamburger on the mountain.
Why is Snocator the only app skiers and snowboarders need? Because Snocator is the only iPhone app that can show you exactly where you are on the mountain - check out the screen shots.
You'll never need to pick up a trail map again, and you won't ever get lost.
Snocator gives you all the tools you need as a skier or snowboarder, on or off the mountain.
On the mountain:
- See your current location on a map and what trail you're on (note: this will be less accurate for non-GPS iPhones)
- Plan your next runs using interactive trail maps
- Find the nearest spot to warm up, grab lunch, or get a hot drink
- Find your friends - coming soon
- Track your runs, speed, and vertical (and show it off on a map, later) - coming soon
- Check the latest weather forecasts
Off the mountain:
- Get snow reports: search resorts in order of largest snowfall and proximity to you
- Check out views of the mountain from real-time mountain cams
- Keep a list of your favorite resorts
- Find the nearest resorts to you
- Track your progress en-route to the slopes and see how far away you are
Lost on the mountain? Trying to figure out where to meet up? Wondering what the weather is like? How much fresh powder has been dumped on your favorite mountain? At the touch of button find out current conditions and where the next big snow will fall.
We've got a full lineup of additions to Snocator planned this season, so install our updates often to take advantage of our planned future additions:
- Run tracking: leave Snocator on while you rip turns, and we'll log your speed, vertical feet, and runs and let you save it on a map to show later
- Downloadable maps: download the maps of your favorite resorts from wifi and you can experience Snocation at high speed and in places with no data connection
- Finding friends: Snocate your friends on the mountain and don't get split up
We use the most up to date snow reports (up to 3 times per day), a proprietary set of location-enabled ski maps, and the location technology from your iPhone to give you the ultimate mountain guide. Don't get lost on the mountain, and get an inside track to finding the deep stuff.
Happy Snocating!
NOTE: This version of Snocator expires when the snow melts in 2009.
Where does Snocator Work?
Snocator currently works anywhere you have a data signal or wifi connection with your iPhone.
We've got GPS map coverage for most major ski areas in North America, and snow reports, trail maps, and mountain cams for most of the world. We are constantly updating our supported list of resorts - if you can't find snow reports or maps for your favorite area (or if you experience any bugs, or have suggestions), please click here and let us know, or email us at support@snocator.com
What Phone Do I Need
Snocator works with any iPhone or iTouch device. However, for best performance, especially when using Snocator to find your location on the mountain, it works best with the 3G iPhone with GPS turned on.
Snocator Trail Maps
Snocator has 2 kinds of trail maps, we call them "Trail maps" and "GPS maps".
Trail Map:

Trail maps are digital versions of the maps you'd pick up at the resort, except that you don't have to fumble around with them in the whipping wind, and try to get them folded back up and into your pocket. In other words, they're a lot easier to use.
GPS Map:

GPS maps are used to show your location on the mountain. You can pan and zoom them by touching the screen, just like you do with other maps applications on your iPhone.
